The trouble began as attendees of the junior varsity game left the Palisade Avenue gymnasium around 8:45 p.m., Detective Capt. Darren Sucorowski said.

Responding officers -- including city police and Bergen County sheriff's officers -- got members of the group to go their separate when one of them "disregarded the officer's commands and started fighting again," Sucorowski said.

When the teen wouldn't stop, officers seized him -- after which another boy interfered, the captain said.

He was taken into custody, as well, Sucorowski said.

Delinquency complaints were being prepared against both boys, who were released to their parents.

An investigation by the Garfield Police Juvenile Division was continuing, the captain said.
